Motor Core Replacement

Tools Needed:

  • Diagonal Cutters
  • Needle Nose Pliers
  • 2.5 mm hex key
  • 3mm hex key
  • 5mm hex key
  • Electrical tape
  • Water proof bicycle grease
  • Small Zip ties (2)

 

Procedure:

Step 1: Disconnect the motor cable connector and remove the wheel from the bike with a 15mm wrench.

 

Step 2: Remove the 4m bolts securing the rotor. NOTE: THESE BOLTS ARE SPECIFIC A LENGTH. REPLACING THEM WITH THE THE WRONG LENGTH CAN CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE MOTOR.

 

Step 3: Remove the six Phillips screws from the faceplate. Be cautious of stipping the heads and use plenty of pressure.

 

Step 4: Use a flathead screwdriver or some other prying tool to gently work the faceplate free of the planetary gears. After about 1 cm it should pop off revealing the faceplate and the rotor core.


 

Step 5: Flip the hub over and remove the cable guide from the axel. It should pulp straight off (along the same axis as the axle). You may need to loosen it perpendicularly will a screwdriver.

 

Step 6: Gently tap the drive side of with a mallet to loosen the core.

 

Step 7: The core can now be replaced. Make sure use all the original washers the came with the original wheel. When reinstalling the faceplate, it may take a few attempts for the teeth the mesh and seat fully.
